The same boy who watches The Walking Dead with no ill effects watched The Adventures of Ronald McDonald: Scared Silly, and I have spent the past 45 mins rocking and comforting him because IT WAS TOO SCARY!
Last season it wasn't as bad. This season I've been very selective about which episodes he watches, or what parts of the episodes. I didn't let him watch "Killer Inside" because I was afraid he'd have nightmares about losing mothers. I didn't let him watch this last episode because of the "interrogation techniques." I gave him a judiciously edited verbal recap.
He used to sneak out of bed and crawl into the livingroom to secretly watch the show from behind my chair, or turn it on in his bedroom and watch it alone. I'd rather he watched it with me so we can talk about it and process together. I also had to hide the comics because they are WAY more graphic (lots of F-bombs, nudity, and sometimes sex) than the show and he was sneaking around trying to read them.
He's not a typical kid. In the meeting yesterday one of the evaluators said he was an adult in a child's body, and in some ways that's uncomfortably true. He's also a stubborn mule! When he's set on something he'll take whatever discipline is dished out and do it anyway. At least this way it's on MY terms!
Laura, I can't imagine what it must be like inside of a 7 yr old's head when watching Walking Dead... Hmmm, not judging, but dang!
